Everything New is … New.

Tilden Editing Services has another new Home Page and web site. Hopefully this one is more informational than others I’ve tried to post in the past.

I spent a good share of three days getting all the information together and consolidated into the classifications I needed.

I have included pages for Home, About Us, Links, Recommendations, and Fees. I have tried to be as all-inclusive as possible while still not being too “wordy”.

Take a look and give any feedback you think would be helpful. Direct this, also, to your friends who could use these services.

The Future of “Tilden Editing Services” & Literature Itself

Tilden Editing Services is still in its infant stages. Without your help this may stay the same. Right now I have some past, one-time clients, a couple promised jobs, and little else.

I have permission to post a “flyer” on the bulletin board of one of the “common rooms” – the library – for Tilden Editing Services. But what I really need is return, repeat clientele – just to get started.

I enjoy what I’m doing, but I think I’d enjoy it more if it had a little more “meat” to it. That is to say, if the “substance was more substantive”. The quiet, relaxed retirement life is really great, but it’s been 2 1/2 months, now, and I’m getting “itchy” to do a little profitable work; both for me personally and to add a little to our overall household expenses.

If you can help, or know someone else who can use these services, put them in touch with me at: tildenediting@hotmail.com

End of commercial.

Good writers – and in turn good editors/ proofreaders – are hard to find. And “print” authors even harder. I was in Barnes and Noble just last week and was pleased to see how many bound copies of books were available. What did bother me, though, was that they were selling eBooks and eReaders at the main entrance and at the customer service counter. So, will it one day be Barnes and Noble Electronics? Please, no!

This is probably nothing to truly worry about, but the future of a book where you can turn the pages, smell the smell of fresh ink, feel the dust from a well-read copy of an old favorite, could be in jeopardy.

Will our children really ever know the pleasure of opening a brand-new book for the first time and feeling the smoothness of the pages and the stiffness of the binding? Will they hold on to a book they’ve read before so they can read it “just one more time”?

Will spell check replace the human editor and proofreader? I pray not! I decided to get into this “business” from reading one of those mass-produced excuses for newspapers that are  thrown somewhere near our driveways by a women cruising by in her car trying to make a little money to support her young teenager who is still sound asleep in bed after being up until 4:00 am on MySpace.

And I really don’t mean to imply that the future of print media is at an end. Many will hold out to the last, hanging on to old favorites and trying to pass them down to their grandchildren. Ah, well. Just one more chapter in the history and future of literature.

 More next time.

Blessings to you all!

Too Much Leisure … for Now!

It’s been very difficult the past couple months creating a working schedule for my retirement. Generally I don’t even get out of the apartment. Both brunch and supper are served midday, so everything is pretty much upside down.

For now, I’d like to see myself with more clients here in Tilden Editing Services; and I’m sure that you have needs for editing or proofreading needs or know someone else who does. And if they’re serious about their writing they’ll want to know there is someone “out there” who wants to see them produce publishable manuscript.

My motto is Let me edit it before you publish it. My goal is to see each writer, author, poet, or playwright not be ashamed of his or her final draft to the publisher.

Contact me if what I just blogged could be about you.

Tilden Editing Services … Back Again!

As my retirement continues, I am beginning to realize that just in order to not stay bored – not to mention a little extra money – I am going to want/ need to take up some serious editing and proofreading again. This will allow me to continue to have a flexible schedule, yet still give me the opportunity to establish a working schedule for myself.

I need to have your help in this. If you are needing help with editing or proofreading, contact me here or at tildenediting@hotmail.com or through http://www.linkedin.com/in/tildeneditingservices/.

I would love to hear from you.

Contact me with any questions you may have concerning my fees or procedures about any of my services.

God bless you all!

The BIG MOVE

While this is not really apropos to this blog, tomorrow at 9:00 am our driveway will be filled with strong young men and their trucks. Hopefully we can get everything from Vallejo to Roseville, about 90 minutes away, in just one trip.

I’m told that if we do it in one trip the whole thing shouldn’t take more than six hours, portal to portal. My plan is to take the “absolutely necessary” items – bed, sofa, televisions, pots and pans, food – first. If there is more to take we can make a second trip, even at another time.

We have two men coming who are former professional movers who will be there to “mentor” us, and another who is currently a mover who will be helping, truck and all.

So, distance making no difference by blog, eMail, or web site, I will be writing from about 60 to 75 miles northeast from this location next time.

God bless  you all and keep us in your prayers.
